Our customer was a cutter suction dredger in Dubai, equipped with Conrad Stork gearboxes. Cutter suction dredgers are well equipped to pump up huge amounts of sand in shallow water. The auxiliary gearbox drives the hydraulic pumps which operates all hydraulic operated components. The project involved an inspection of the auxiliary gearbox during a scheduled service docking in Al Jadaf near Dubai. Our service engineers carried out an inspection on board of the dredger. We noticed that a few gears were damaged and one of the bearing pockets was warn. We advised the customer to send the gearbox over to our workshop in Rotterdam, for complete overhaul and repair.
