Emergency repair of container vessel propulsion gearbox

Gearbox Propulsion gearbox RENK TACKE HUW 710D 3300 kW n=600, i=3.3 Project description Container vessel "Ara Felixstowe" was anchored in the port of Napels with severe gearbox damage, type RENK. Fast gearbox repair was extremely important in order to set sail in time with the fully loaded containers. The expected repair time of the OEM-er was 12 weeks. Ara Shipmanagement has called Stork Gears & Services in order to get a faster repair time. We quickly arranged an on-site inspection in order to determine the condition of the gearbox. The damaged parts of the gearbox were transported to our workshop in Rotterdam. We manufactured a new set of internals by reverse engineering and completed the repair project within four weeks, all under GL classification.
