In Dubai everything evolves around the speed of handling

Since 2005 Michael Vredevoort has been Manager Sales & Marketing for Stork Gears & Services in Dubai. 29 years of age Michael represents a new generation of managers. Keywords as speed and thoroughness are leading. Exactly the strong points of Stork Gears & Services. "Without those qualifications you are chanceless in Dubai", knows Michael. "Everything evolves around the speed of handling."
Nowhere in the world there is so much as in Dubai, one of the United Arab Emirates. "It's fantastic to work out here", says Michael Vredevoort. "World wide one on six cranes is stationed in Dubai. That is whole lot. Skyscrapers are build here constantly. The one even more beautifull and higher as the other one. And everybody off course knows the famous Palm Island and Burg al Arab, the magnificent hotel with the shape of a sailing ship.

The infrastructure is also a nice example. Also on that terrain the sky is the limit. Everything, really everything, is done to prepare Dubai for the future. Nowadays there are about 1 million inhabitants. That will be 5 million in in 2020. An enormous growth, that's why they are taking precautions now."

Limiting Down-time
By seeing all the concrete, steal and glass giants one could easily forget that the succes of Dubai literally floates on oil. And where oil is exported, shipping is of crucial economic importance. Michael Vredevoort: "Stork Gears & Services plays an important role in the maritime sector. We already had this role in countries like Iran, Lebanon, Oman and Kuwait, but since one year we also have a solid base in Dubai. We are specialised in repairing and maintainance of gearboxes, as well as in the oil- as in the gasindustry, the maritime industry, the FPSO-industry and power stations. Just like in Dubai everything evolves around the speed of handling, which is normal to us. If one gear wheel is damaged on an oil plant or on a ship, production lies still. "Down-time" it is called in our business. Every company wants to limit the risc on "Down-time". Buying a new gearbox seems the most obvious solution, but is not always the best. For that mostly delivery times are too long. Repairing is a better option than. And that's just where Stork Gears & Services comes in. We got all parts of the process in our hands: logistics, calculation and project planning all happen under one roof. With three to five weeks we got the business running again, while buying a new one mostly takes several months."
Preventing problems
"Capturing the gearbox market" it is the assignment for which Michael Vredevoort has left for Dubai. Already he notices that the name Stork opens doors. "Entrepreneurs in Dubai are extremely professional. They expect the same of their business partners. We at Stork notice that our approach hits the spot. We are approached more and more to solve acute problems. But, off course, that's not the only thing we can offer our clients. Also the maintainance and monitoring of gear wheels is a strong point within our organisation. Yes, you can call that "the prevention of problems". Our organisation is 24 hours per day contactable, so we can always directly jump in. With this I'm convinced that we can score in this hectical economic situation in Dubai".
