Stork Gears & Services sponsors "Small scale
engineering works"-program in Kenya
Kenya is an east African
country with over 30 million people. Drought, ethnic division,
poverty, diseases like AIDS and malaria account for many of Kenya's
problems. Stork Gears & Services sponsors an Employment Project
for metalworking. Many youngsters are orphans and live in very needy circumstances, mostly under the povertyline. Although the government provides free basic education, it cannot support the schools financially, and education suffers as well as unemployment. One result is that attendance at schools is low and the future perspectives for young adults are very insecure. Stork Gears & Services participates in an Educational Metalworking Program to increase their job opportunities. The "Small scale engineering works program" is an educational program that facilitates a metalworking workshop for unemployed youth. Under the supervision of an experienced metalworker the participants learn how to make applied steel products such as tools for agriculture and fishing, fences, windows and water tanks. By learning on the job they will increase their employment opportunities and generate a small income. The sponsorship contains of a donation to buy metal working equipment and tools. With this sponsorship we hope to make a valuable contribution towards the costs of this promising project. |
