Steam turbine pinion for palm oil industry
| Malaysia is the world’s leading exporter
of palm oil. Inherent to the palm oil industry is the huge amount of
process waste, which brings about tremendous disposal as well as
environmental problems. An environmental acceptable and energy
efficient solution is to burn the process waste, generate steam from
the combustion process and use that steam to generate power
(cogeneration unit). In these units, power of up to about 1000 kW is
typically generated by steam using a one or two stage steam turbine,
which is connected to an electrical generator. The speed of the steam
turbine is about 8,000 to 10,000 rpm while the speed for the
generator is 1,500 rpm thus necessitating a gearbox. The pictures show a sudden and complete failure of the pinion shaft. The matching gear wheel was also damaged as a consequence of the pinion failure and we offered a complete set on very favourable terms compared to the OEM both with respect to delivery time and price. Also, we are also able to offer qualified service engineers to assemble and adjust the gear internals in the gearbox while checking all the clearances.
